I didn’t set out to run a ranch, but I grew up around this one and kept coming back to it. After a few years working construction out of state, I returned to help my uncle during a tough season and ended up staying. When he stepped back, I took over the day-to-day, learning as I went and making more than a few mistakes early on.
The work is steady but never really the same. Some days are routine—feeding, checking fences, keeping an eye on the herd—and others are unpredictable, usually tied to weather or something breaking at the wrong time. Over the years, I’ve gotten used to solving problems as they come, often with whatever’s on hand.
This site is where I keep a record of that life. I write about the practical side of ranching, the changes I’ve made to the land, and the things I’ve learned from neighbors who’ve been doing this longer than I have. A lot of it comes from long days outside and the kind of thinking you do while driving a fence line or walking a pasture.
